CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Logan

I have managed to avoid Noelle all weekend. I'm pretty sure she had the same idea. She didn't join my mother, my sister, Cole and I for Sunday brunch as has been her norm. In fact I don't even know if she was home at all this weekend.

And I haven't been able to play the piano since that night. I can barely walk in the room and just walking past the door gives me a hard on. That kiss was hot. So hot that I'm sure it killed a few brain cells and is forever branded in my mind. How do you move on from something like that?

The office is quiet, she hasn't yet arrived to start work. I need to keep my distance from her. I need to remain aloof and professional around her. I need to kiss her again.

No. Not going there.

I slip my shoes and socks off and walk over to my white board. The deep thick rug under my feet helps me to focus on the equations I have written up. One of these is the possible solution to the life span problem we've been having with the Medibots, but I can't see it.

I make a notation and then an adjustment. The answer is stirring around the edges of my brain, but I can't seem to latch onto it. I start to pace, letting my bare feet sink into the plush carpet, letting the sensation anchor me. I have been doing this long enough that the familiar feeling on my soles lights up the neural pathway to the problem solving part of my brain. Unfortunately, no answer is forthcoming.

I hear the outer office door open and close. Noelle is here. My brain goes into meltdown.
